1. My weekend was the best ever.
I found out a few weeks ago that my brother, sis-in-law and niece would be making their first trip back to Omaha since they moved to Atlanta almost a year ago. While I was supposed to be running my 4th half in Madison with AMW, I was SO sad to be missing out on a rare chance to be with my WHOLE family. I started scouring for cheap flights assuming that it wouldn’t work out. It didn’t. Then, about a week ago, I decided to bite the bullet, skip the race and drive to Omaha.
The 15 hours of driving (round trip) was SO worth it. Just 20 minutes after I had talked to my mom about mine and WBB’s “weekend plans in Chicago” we showed up to where she was having lunch. She looked like she’d seen a ghost, and then started screaming and tearing up. Then we headed back home to surprise the rest of them. We hid my car in the garage and my mom unplugged the garage doors so they were forced to come in the front door. One by one, they each came into the living room. First, my sis-in-law walks in and shrieks. Then my brother comes in with Amelia and shouts “What the F*%$??!?!”. My sister frantically comes in wondering what’s wrong and looked confused, then started bawling. Then my bro-in-law came in with a similar reaction to my brother!! Absolutely perfect. Then we surprised my pops at dinner who wasn’t quite sure what was going on, “Woah, Ash is here!!”
This is the first time all of us have been together in a year! We went to a booze filled viewing of Hangover 2, dined at some faves such as Pitch and Dixie Quicks, the boys golfed, the girls lunched at Market Basket, there were lots of lawn games and grilling and a thankful mom/dad that grandma/grandpa were around to babysit and give us a night out on the town with the crew. And plenty of hugs and kisses for “Aunt Ashie” from the peanut :)
Best decision. Best weekend. I have the best family :) (And best bf for agreeing to do all this with me (after a red-eye flight back from Seattle)/encouraging me to do it! What a trooper.)
